Georgia Tech’s Albert Hansson wins playoff; UNC, Texas, Vanderbilt and Virginia share team title at Colonial.
FORT WORTH, Texas — The Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational produced one of its most dramatic conclusions yet at the famed Colonial Country Club. Albert Hansson of Georgia Tech emerged as the individual champion after outlasting four others in a sudden-death playoff, while North Carolina, Texas, Vanderbilt, and Virginia finished tied at +10 to share the team championship.
After 54 holes, five players were locked at −1, setting the stage for a tense playoff under the shadow of Ben Hogan’s legacy. Hansson, who displayed control and composure all week, sealed the win with clutch play in the extra session. The victory not only added his name to a growing list of champions at Colonial but also marked one of the biggest highlights of his collegiate career.
In the team competition, no single program could pull away. Virginia, the 36-hole leader, fought to the finish but was joined by surging North Carolina, steady Texas, and a balanced Vanderbilt squad at +10. The four-way tie underscored the depth of the field and the difficulty of the Colonial test, where even par golf often proves enough to win.
The Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational was created to honor Hogan’s record five victories in the Colonial National Invitational and quickly became one of the premier fall events in college golf. Played at a course steeped in history, the tournament has featured future PGA TOUR standouts such as Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, and Will Zalatoris. Each year, Colonial challenges the top collegiate teams with its narrow fairways, penal rough, and lightning-fast greens—demanding the kind of precision Hogan himself once embodied.
Since its inception, the event has consistently drawn a powerhouse field, and 2025 was no different. With 15 elite programs battling in Fort Worth, the championship once again delivered high drama and underscored why the Ben Hogan Collegiate is considered a proving ground for future stars.
The 2025 edition will be remembered as one of the most competitive yet, with Hogan’s spirit of precision, grit, and resilience woven into every hole and every swing.
