9 determined amateurs earned their way to Royal Portrush through Final Qualifying. Follow their journey at the Open
Royal Portrush proved a relentless test for the amateur contingent at the 153rd Open Championship. All nine amateur players missed the cut, with the +1 line leaving several top performers—including Amateur Champion Ethan Fang—just short. It marks one of the rare recent years where no amateurs advance to the weekend at The Open.
Still, there were strong moments. Cameron Adam and Ethan Fang both posted rounds of 70 or better and finished at +3, two shots shy. Czech standout Filip Jakubcik and Cayman Islands veteran Justin Hastings also showed flashes before faltering in Round 2. With major experience gained on one of golf’s grandest stages, this class will surely return stronger.

The race for the Silver Medal ends early in 2025, but the amateur stories at Royal Portrush still matter. Each of these nine players earned their place through elite victories, national titles, and grueling qualifiers. For many, this week was their major debut—and for all, it was a milestone.
With international flavor, youth, and raw talent, this group showed that amateur golf continues to thrive. Expect to see several of these names on future leaderboards—for both majors and professional tours.
