Oklahoma took 37 of the 54 possible points in the singles matches on the second day to secure the dominant win
Oklahoma claims the inaugural Red River Cup Matches in dominant fashion, totaling 53 points at The Territory Golf & Country Club.
The Texas Golf Association and Oklahoma Golf Association came together to build two 18-player teams featuring eight mid-amateurs, six senior amateurs and four women amateurs to square off.
The event featured a total of 27 matches that were each worth three points. On Wednesday, the teams competed in Four-Ball Match Play, where Oklahoma took a 16-11 lead. The 18 singles matches on Thursday provided 54 points up for grabs, seeing Oklahoma win 37 of those.
Bobby Baugh of San Antonio, Rob Couture of Celina and Anna Schultz of Heath each won their 18-hole match on Thursday. Baugh and Schultz were able to capture all three points en route to his match victory, while Couture won 2 1/2 for Texas.
The Territory Golf & Country Club is located in Duncan, Okla. The course sits on the southwest part of the state about three hours northwest of DFW. The par-72 layout features small greens and can stretch out to 7,000 yards around the Stagestand Creek. The course provided a great test for the first year of the Red River Cup.
The matches will head to Texas in 2025 as the Texas Golf Association will host the 36-player event. The teams will be determined using Statewide and Senior Player of the Year Standings from Men’s and Women’s events.
