The 2022 Haskins award winner held off Rory McIlroy to earn his 2nd career PGA Tour victory at Genesis Scottish Open
After a standout collegiate career at Rutgers and Oklahoma, Chris Gotterup has proven he belongs at the game’s highest level, now as a two-time PGA Tour winner.
Gotterup earned his second PGA Tour victory at the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, outlasting Rory McIlroy by two shots to secure the title. The win not only marks a career milestone but also books his ticket to next week’s Open Championship, one of golf’s most iconic stages.
His breakout PGA Tour moment came in May 2024 when he dominated the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C., firing 22-under-par to win by six shots over Alistair Docherty and Davis Thompson. That was his 27th Tour start, and now has two victories in 61 starts.
Gotterup’s game has been trending upward in 2025, showing growing consistency with 12 made cuts in 21 starts and a handful of top-25 finishes, including at the U.S. Open. While he hadn’t cracked the top 10 all season, the Scottish Open victory showed he’s clearly turned a corner.
Before turning professional, Gotterup was the 2022 Haskins Award winner and the unanimous No. 1 collegiate player per both the Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. After transferring to Oklahoma for his final season, he notched wins at the East Lake Cup and Puerto Rico Classic, finished runner-up at the Big 12 Championship, and placed T5 at the NCAA Championship, just one stroke out of the lead.
His collegiate victory at the Puerto Rico Classic in 2022 got him into the Puerto Rico Open on the PGA Tour, where he finished T7 as an amateur in 2022.
That year, Gotterup helped lead Oklahoma to a school record-tying seven team victories, including the program’s 18th conference title. He also guided the Sooners to their sixth straight NCAA match play quarterfinals and recorded seven top-10 finishes.
