Ben Van Wyk of Georgia took the individual lead by a narrow one shot with 18 holes remaining
Ben Van Wyk of Georgia and Utah lead the 2024 Goodwin Intercollegiate at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, Calif., with just 18 holes remaining.
In the team competition, Utah leads Georgia by one shot at 3-over, while the Bulldogs are 4-over heading into Saturday.
Utah shot a second round 1-under 279 to jump into the team lead in the tournament, led by Braxton Watts, who sits in solo second place.
Georgia has shot team rounds of 279-285 to get to 4-over. San Francisco and Tennessee are T3 at 5-over, and host school Stanford is in solo fifth place at 6-over. Stanford is looking for its 17th win in the Goodwin Intercollegiate.
Georgia Tech is in solo sixth place at 7-over, BYU is in solo seventh place at 8-over, and Pepperdine is in solo eighth place at 9-over.
In the individual competition, Van Wyk of Georgia is 4-under and leads the field by one shot. Braxton Watts of Utah is in solo second place at 3-under.
Van Wyk has shot rounds of 69-67 and jumped seven spots up the leaderboard with his second round 3-under 67 that consisted of four birdies and just one bogey. Watts shot a second-round 4-under 66 to jump 26 spots up the leaderboard heading into the final round.
William Walsh of Pepperdine, Pablo Ereno of UCLA, and Kristoffer Kuvaas of Pepperdine are T3 at 2-under and two shots back of Van Wyk.
Van Wyk is currently ranked No. 131 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings. He finished as the medalist in the 2023 British Amateur Stoke Play portion and won the 2023 NCAA Division I Midwest Regional.
Watts won the 2023 Saguaro Amateur.
Notable golfers Michael Thorbjornsen of Stanford is T6 at 1-under, and Christo Lamprecht of Georgia Tech is T18 at 1-over. Both players are ranked in the top five of the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.
