Burnand shot a second round 6-over 76, but shot the best final round in the field to secure the victory

A second-round 6-over 76 looked like it might have taken the trophy out of the reach of Jordan Burnand of South Africa, but a stellar final round saw him finish at the top of the leaderboard at 2-under in the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Mount Edgecombe Golf Club in Mount Edgecombe, South Africa.

Burnand shot a final-round 3-under 67, which was the best round of the day, with difficult conditions and gusty winds making the course hard to maneuver.

Burnand fell back to T16 after his second round after leading through the opening 18 holes, but a 1-under 69 in the third round got him back to 1-over total and T9, five shots back of the leaders and within striking distance.

He then recorded four birdies and just one bogey in his final round, birding Holes No. 7, 8, 12, and 17 to secure his win.

It was a tough day for the 54-hole leaders, as Ivan Verster of South Africa shot a 5-over 75 and Dylan Kayne a 10-over 80, punctuated with a nine of the par-5 No. 14. Vertser finished T6 at 1-over, and Kayne finished T13 at 6-over.

Lars van der Vight of the Netherlands, Astin Wade Arthur of South Africa, and Jean Pierre van der Watt of South Africa finished T2 at 1-under, just one shot back of Burnand.

Travis Proctor of South Africa finished in solo fifth place at even par, and Verster and Altin van der Merwe of South Africa finished T6 at 1-over. Van der Merwe was the 2023 AGC Mid-Am Player of the Year after a stellar 2023 campaign.

Kayle Wykes of South Africa, Gregor Graham of Scotland, Noa Auch-Roy of France, and Daniel Bennett of South Africa all finished T8 at 3-over to round out the top 10.
