The Utah Tech senior Jones opened with a 10-under 62 to win by one shot
Tyler Jones, a fifth-year senior at Utah Tech, shot a remarkable 12-under 132 with rounds of 62-70, securing a wire-to-wire victory at the Hurricane City Amateur title held at Sky Mountain Golf Course in Hurricane, Utah.
Jones outperformed Desert Hills Junior Brock Porter by a single shot. Porter posted an impressive 11-under par with rounds of 66-67, securing a runner-up finish in the tournament.
Jones started strongly with a 62, including an eagle on Hole No. 6 and nine birdies, offset by a lone bogey on Hole No. 16, setting a competitive course record. Heading into the final round, he led by four shots over Porter and Zach Woods of Bloomington CC, both of whom opened with matching 66s.
In his debut season last year, Jones participated in all 11 team events for Utah Tech, finishing fourth on the team with a 73.97 stroke average. Before joining Utah Tech, he played three seasons for Southern Utah.
The Gross section of the tournament saw participation from 77 amateurs.
In the Senior Flight, Mark Gardiner of Desert Lakes GC dominated the category with a total score of 4-under 140, consisting of rounds of 69-71, securing the title with a massive 10-shot margin over Randy Danjanovich of Alpine CC in Highland, UT.
In the Super Senior Flight, Dale Christensen of Hidden Valley CC emerged as the winner with a total score of 4-over 148.
In the Women’s Flight, Jane Olson of Tolonscove GC claimed the title with an 11-shot margin over Nuny Khamken of Arizona. Olson shot an impressive 5-under 139 against Khamken’s 6-over 150 to secure the victory.

36 hole stroke play tournament with three flights: Regular, Senior, and and Ladies. Gross and Net competitions in each flight. Maximum handicap 24 for men, 36 for ladies.
