Austin Schoonmaker and Alex Crafton start 2021 with wins at the CTX Snowbird Classic in Florida

Austin Schoonmaker (Springboro, Ohio) and Alex Crafton (Lake Mary, Fla.) were the winners at the College Tour X (CTX) Snowbird Classic at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Schoonmaker, a senior at Wright State University, came from three shots back in the final round to overtake the 36-hole leader Cameron Bonner of the University of West Florida. Schoonmaker erased the lead early in the round and at one point was five under for the day before finishing with a 4-under 68 to finish 54 holes at 3-under 213. Bonner, who started the final round at 2 under par, struggled early in the final round and finished with a 1-over 73, two shots behind Schoonmaker. Chance Taylor of Tennessee Tech shot a 68 to finish third. Taylor overcame a brutal start to the tournament -- he was 7 over par through six holes of the first round -- to finish at 3 over par. In the Women's Division, Crafton took a one-shot lead over Shelby Brauckmuller of the University of South Florida after 36 holes, and fell pulled away on Wednesday with an early birdie as Brauckmuller lost five shots in the first four holes. The Circle Christian High School senior and East Tennessee State commit slowed down a bit but cruised home with a 78 and a four-shot win. The CTX Snowbird Classic was the latest in the College Tour X series of 54-hole events that is in its first full season of competition. The series resumes this summer with five events, starting with the CTX Tri-State Open at Highland Oaks in Dothan, Alabama. "We couldn’t be more pleased with the start to our amateur tour which is built for college golfers," said College Tour X Managing Partner. "We hosted four solid events during the winter and look forward to that momentum carrying us into the second half of the 2020-21 wrap-around season which will begin in June. The stage is set for an incredible race towards the CTX PLAYERS Championship Invitational & Player of the Year honors in early August."
