Nineteen USGA champions are among those players who have earned entry into the 120th U.S. Amateur Championship, which will be hosted by Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, in Bandon, Ore., on Aug. 10-16, 2020. Entries closed earlier this month. As previously announced, the 264-player field for the championship will be entirely made up of exempt players due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bandon Dunes course will host both stroke play and match play, while the Bandon Trails course will serve as the stroke-play co-host.

Andy Ogletree, of Little Rock, Miss., returns following his victory in the 2019 U.S. Amateur Championship at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club. Ogletree, 22, a two-time All-American at Georgia Tech and a member of last year’s winning USA Walker Cup Team, seeks to become the first player to win back-to-back Amateurs since Tiger Woods won three consecutive titles from 1994-96. John Augenstein, who was runner-up to Ogletree last year and a member of the 2019 USA Walker Cup Team, is also in the field.

The other USGA champions entered are: Philip Barbaree (2015 U.S. Junior Amateur), Garrett Barber (2018 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball), Frankie Capan (2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball), Noah Goodwin (2017 U.S. Junior Amateur), Stewart Hagestad (2016 U.S. Mid-Amateur), Cole Hammer (2018 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball), Doug Hanzel (2013 U.S. Senior Amateur), Scott Harvey (2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur, 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball), Sean Knapp (2017 U.S. Senior Amateur), Lukas Michel (2019 U.S. Mid-Amateur), Todd Mitchell (2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball), Kevin O’Connell (2018 U.S. Mid-Amateur), Matt Parziale (2017 U.S. Mid-Amateur), Bob Royak (2019 U.S. Senior Amateur), Dave Ryan (2016 U.S. Senior Amateur), Preston Summerhays (2019 U.S. Junior Amateur), Michael Thorbjornsen (2018 U.S. Junior Amateur) and Jeff Wilson (2018 U.S. Senior Amateur).

The field also features nine of the amateurs who competed in the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links. This group includes Michael Thorbjornsen, who at age 17 became the second-youngest player to make the 36-hole cut since World War II and finished 79th.

Six of the top 10 players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking® (as of July 29) are in the field, including No. 2 Ricky Castillo, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; No. 4 Davis Thompson, of Saint Simons Island, Ga.; No. 5 John Pak, of Scotch Plains, N.J.; No. 6 Eduard Rousaud, of Spain; No. 7 Sandy Scott, of Scotland; and No. 9 Ogletree.

This is the seventh USGA championship to be conducted at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, including the 2006 Curtis Cup Match, the 2007 U.S. Mid-Amateur, the 2011 U.S. Amateur Public Links and U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links, the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball and last year’s U.S. Amateur Four-Ball.

The list of 262 golfers currently in the 2020 U.S. Amateur field can be found here. The starting field will play 18 holes of stroke play on Aug. 10 and 11, one round each on Bandon Dunes and Bandon Trails, after which the field will be cut to the low 64 scorers. Six rounds of match play begin on Aug. 12 and the championship concludes with a 36-hole final on Aug. 16. The champion and runner-up will be exempt into the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course, in San Diego, Calif.
