John Derrick needed every shot to stay ahead of a very consistent Richard Kerper.
With a closing 69, John Derrick walked away with the Sunnehanna Senior title on Wednesday by a slim one-shot margin. Derrick needed every shot to stay ahead of a very consistent Richard Kerper.
Derrick opened with rounds of 71-72 at the par-74 Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Pa. That left him with some work to do, considering he trailed Allen Peake, recent winner of the Golfweek Senior Match Play, by three and Kerper by one.
Derrick’s final round was two shots better than Kerper and five better than Peake. They finished one, two, three on the leaderboard, separated by a shot each. Kip Estep, who had a closing 67, also finished with a 214 total to tie Peake for third. Eddie Hargett rounded out the top five with a 215 total made up of rounds of 73-71-71.
John Armstrong won the super senior division by a two-shot margin with rounds of 68-72-72.
Don Kuehn was the legend division winner with rounds of 68-69-70. He was eight shots ahead of the nearest competitor.
