LA JOLLA, CA (July 16, 2017) - Taylor Bibbs shot 5-under on the Torrey Pines North Course Saturday to open a 4 shot lead. He closed out with 76 on the South and held on to win the San Diego City by 2.
Bibbs, who attended Cathedral Catholic, will be a senior at Mississippi State. He is having an excellent summer, advancing to the round of 16 at the State Am at Olympic Club and finishing 6th at last week's SCGA Amateur in the desert at Mission Hills.
The South Course beat the field up in Sunday's final round.
But Scotland Schmidt shot a fantastic 69 on on the U.S. Open venue, stretched out and pins with tucked.
This was the first City Championship played on the newly renovated North. Players were impressed with the redesign and smooth greens.
Amy Matsuoka posted 4-over to win the women's title while Don Eklund won a playoff over Howie Knodt after the two San Diego CC members finished tied at 7-over.
