Jordan Sanders cruises to Austin City victory

AUSTIN, TX (August 7, 2016) -- Sparked by a second round 10-under 61 Jordan Sanders finished 16-under and won the Austin City Amateur by five-strokes. Jay Reynolds was 11-under and in second place at Jimmy Clay Golf Course.

Sanders, a sophomore at Texas Tech, overcame a double-bogey on the 3rd hole of his final round with birdies on the next three holes. Playing with the lead Sanders coasted on the back nine with a birdie and a bogey. Sanders concluded the 72-hole event with a 1-under 71.

The second round 61 came as the result of a bogey-free 10-under scorecard. Sanders came firing out of the gates with six front nine birdies to turn in 6-under 30. The torrid pace continued on the back nine with four more birdies.

Patrick Datz was 9-under in third, Brian Noonan was fourth at 7-under while Jonathan Alden was fifth at 5-under.

The Austin City Amateur was held at three courses. On the first two days the field was split between the Lions Municipal Golf Course and Morris Municipal Golf Course. The third round was played at Grey Rock Golf Course.
