MARICOPA, Ariz. (Jan. 3, 2014) — Sean Walsh, a junior at Gonzaga University from Keller, Texas, held a share of the first-round lead with Chico State's Alistair Docherty at the Saguaro Amateur after shooting 65 on Friday. On Saturday, he moved into first place on his own with a 69 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.

Walsh's Friday 65 was bogey-free while Saturday's round included one bogey and four birdies. He has made 11 birdies over the first two rounds.

Chase Hanna, a sophomore at Kansas, carded a 66 on Saturday to move into solo second place after a two-under 70 in the first round. Hanna, from Leawood, Kan., was one of three players to shoot 66 in the second round, but Ben Doyle's 64 stands as the lowest round of the tournament thus far.

Doyle's 64 came on the heels of an opening-round 73, and his eight-under performance jumped him from eight back into a tie for third place, which he shares with Rico Hoey of the University of Southern California.

Hoey, who was one of 16 players invited to a Walker Cup practice session in Georgia, has gone 71-66 in the first two rounds.

Alistair, who held a share of the first-round lead, shot 74 on Saturday and is now five-back in a tie for eighth.

Defending champion Taylor Moore of the University of Arkansas is in 12th place after shooting 72-68.

The Saguaro Amateur will conclude on Sunday.
