Odyssey Drops Limited-Edition Left-Handed Damascus Milled Putters

Left-handed golfers are accustomed to watching premium, limited-edition equipment arrive in right-handed configurations only. Odyssey is flipping that script with its newest Damascus Milled release.

The company will launch three left-handed Odyssey Damascus Milled putters at retail on Aug. 13—National Left-Handers Day. The limited collection includes the Seven Double Bend, Jailbird Mini Double Bend and Two CH, each priced at $699.99.

This is not simply a left-handed version of a familiar finish package. Odyssey describes the Damascus Milled family as the most premium putter line it has produced, pairing an intricate Damascus Steel insert with a fully milled stainless-steel head, AI-informed face technology and details developed through feedback from the professional tours.

A Damascus insert unlike any other

The visual centerpiece is the Damascus Steel insert. Its swirling pattern is created by stacking 61 sheets made from two different types of steel, then pressing and rolling the material under extreme heat. During production, the steel is extended to roughly the length of two football fields before being cut and twisted to create its layered appearance.

Where each insert is cut determines the pattern that appears on its face. The result is that no two putters look exactly alike, although Odyssey says the differences in pattern do not change the insert's sound, feel or performance.

That blend of metals is about more than presentation. According to Odyssey's head of R&D, Eric Stuben, one of the steels is softer while the other is stronger and firmer. Together, they produce the responsive, solid feedback the company was seeking for this project.

Built to sound and feel like a premium milled putter

Odyssey General Manager Jacob Davidson said the Damascus Milled project developed over several years, with extensive testing and feedback gathered on PGA Tour and LPGA Tour putting greens.

A recurring message from tour players was that a milled putter should sound slightly louder and feel firm and solid at impact. Although Odyssey's Ai-ONE Milled insert delivered a softer sensation that found success with golfers, the Damascus project gave its R&D team an opportunity to create something a touch firmer and more audible.

Odyssey calls the result “performance Damascus.” Contours on the back of the insert were designed using artificial intelligence to help produce more consistent ball speed across the face. That brings one of the central performance concepts behind Odyssey's Ai-ONE technology into a more exclusive construction.

“We wanted to really have a performance aspect to that, but also deliver the most premium, performance-driven putter that we've ever done at Odyssey,” Davidson said during the company's product presentation.

Each head is also 100 percent precision milled from premium stainless steel, creating the crisp lines and exacting tolerances expected in a putter at this price point. A blasted silver finish gives the collection a clean, understated appearance while allowing the Damascus patterns to stand out.

Three options made specifically for left-handed golfers

The Aug. 13 release gives left-handed players three distinct shapes:

• Damascus Milled Seven Double Bend: Odyssey's angular, high-MOI mallet profile with a double-bend shaft.

• Damascus Milled Jailbird Mini Double Bend: A more compact version of the elongated Jailbird design that has become one of Odyssey's most recognizable modern shapes.

• Damascus Milled Two CH: A traditional blade profile paired with a crank hosel.

Together, the three models cover a broad range of visual and stroke preferences, from the compact simplicity of a blade to the added size, alignment help and stability of a mallet.

Premium details from grip to sole

Odyssey extended the development work beyond the face and head. The new Rubber Tour Pistol grip was created in collaboration with Golf Pride and shaped using feedback from players and representatives across the global tours.

As part of that research, Odyssey studied the grips used by the top 25 putters on each tour. The company repeatedly found a preference for a traditional pistol-style profile, sharper edges and a wider front paddle. Those traits were combined with a soft, almost velvet-like texture to create what Stuben called a classic-looking modern tour grip.

The putters are paired with Odyssey's SL90, a lightweight steel shaft containing 20 grams of counterbalancing in the butt end to support stability, tempo and control.

Even the sole received special treatment. The weights feature beveled edges inspired by premium watches, while the sole plate is made from two types of aluminum processed into its own Damascus-style pattern. Like the steel face inserts, every sole plate has a slightly different appearance.

A two-panel quilted headcover completes the package. It features a gray sherpa lining and was intentionally designed to resemble the kind of premium aftermarket cover golfers often purchase for putters in this category.

A true limited drop

Odyssey says the Damascus Milled release will be tightly allocated, with most retailers and golf shops receiving only a small number of putters. The limited supply of Damascus Steel, the difficulty of the manufacturing process and its associated cost prevent the company from producing the line on a mass-market scale.

That scarcity will make the Aug. 13 launch especially notable for left-handed golfers. Premium putter drops are rarely built entirely around them, much less released on National Left-Handers Day.
