Core Competency: The new Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x were redesigned from inside out

It was October of 2000 and Billy Andrade was claiming victory at the Invensys Classic at Las Vegas. The ball Andrade had in play that week was a new offering from Titleist called the Pro V1. Two months later, golf retailers everywhere received their shipments for public consumption, and in what felt like no time at all the Titleist Pro V1 became the ball that changed it all.

Here we stand in 2023 and the OEM that continues to improve on its masterpiece introduces its twelfth generation of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x. For the average golfer, the difference between the two models can lead to some confusion. After all, the Pro V1 and Pro V1x have changed over time regarding what type of player each serves best.

While attending the 2023 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, we caught up with Michael Fish, Senior Product Manager at Titleist. What we learned is that the true difference between the previous Pro V1 models and the new ones starts from the inside with a high-gradient core. What exactly does that mean?

“The center of both products is very soft and as you go to the outer part of the core it gets firmer and firmer,” said Fish. “What a high gradient core delivers to the golfer is lower spin in the long game which gives them longer distance. There’s a solid core for Pro V1 and a dual-core for Pro V1x.”

What remains consistent across the board is the overall quality and performance you can expect from the 2023 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x. According to Fish, there are plenty of similarities to continue the trend of Titleist being the #1 Ball in Golf.

“One of the benefits of these golf balls is a more consistent flight, so dispersion has gotten a little tighter,” said Fish. “So they’re longer and straighter. What golfer doesn’t want that?”
