Strategic Insight
Expected cut lineLow 40 and ties after 36 holesAfter 36 holes
Course expectations
Stanford's par-70, 6,727-yard layout demands precision and thoughtful shot selection, with San Francisquito Creek affecting nearly half the holes, firm fairways, subtly contoured greens, and elevation changes that reward trajectory control.
Weather risk
January conditions in the Bay Area can bring rain and cooler temperatures, though recent editions have benefited from excellent weather during the event window.

The tournament's recent history shows that Pacific Grove rewards both local knowledge and Sunday charges—winners have closed with low rounds of 64 (Mitchell Hoey in 2025, Jerry Ledzinski in 2026) to separate from tight fields, suggesting that aggressive play on the exposed back nine is often the difference-maker.
