Grew up in northwest Connecticut and played high school golf. Earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Connecticut in 1982 and 1984. Joined the Netherlands Opera in 1984 and performed full-time through 1995 when my wife and our five children moved back from Amsterdam to Columbia, MO. Taught voice and was the Director of Opera at Mizzou from 1995-1998 before moving to Verona, WI in 1998 to teach at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (www.jamesdoing.com). Retired from university teaching in May 2023 so I have more freedom to play national and international events. Currently employed as a club fitter and sales associate at Nevada Bob’s Golf in Madison, WI with a flexible schedule.
