The Championship Match in the Senior Women's Match Play featured two of the most decorated players in our state's history. Pictor faced two-time defending champion, Laura Coble of Augusta.
Pictor advanced to the finals with a (1 up) victory over Leslie Elkins in the quarterfinals and (4 and 3) win over Diane Chancellor in the semifinals. Coble advanced with two convincing wins. She defeated Mary Riley (4 and 3) in the quarterfinals and followed it up with a (5 and 4) victory over Deb Jackson in the semifinals. Coble was the medalist after stroke play qualifying.
In finals Pictor birdied the first hole and carried that momentum throughout the day. She went on to defeat Coble 5 and 4. She now holds both the Georgia Senior Women's Championship title and the Georgia Women's Match Play Championship title at the same time.
Louise Yu won the Women's Match Play title in 2016 and looked dominant once again. The #3 seeded Yu advanced after a (3 and 2) victory over Meghan Nay in the round of 16 and Danielle Davis (5 and 4) in the quarterfinals. She then won her semifinals match Saturday morning against Sarah Harrison (4 and 3) to book a spot in the finals. The #5 seed Payton Schanen, who earned runner-up honors, advanced with a (2 and 1) win over Najae Butler in the round of 16 and followed it up with a win over #4 seed Lizzie Reedy (5 and 4) in the quarterfinals. She then upset top seeded Ivy Shepherd in the semifinals on Saturday morning to advance to the Championship Match.
