Worcester Amateur: Stimets wins at -10

Ricky Stimets fired a course-record 65 in the first round and never looked back

Worcester, MA (July 3, 2011) -- Twenty-year-old Ricky Stimets (Oyster Harbors Club) enjoyed his Fourth of July as he captured his second career Worcester County Amateur title. Stimets, who lives in Paxton but spends his summers on the Cape, tied the Wachusett Country Club tournament course record of 65 during the first round to jump out to a commanding lead over the field. He continued to roll on day two as he posted a 69 at Kettle Brook Golf Club to win by 7 strokes over two-time Massachusetts Four-Ball Champion and second-place finisher Ryan Riley (Norton CC). Stimets, a rising junior at North Alabama, has won this title twice in the past three years. He finished with a score of 10-under par 134.
