PINEHURST, N.C. (Aug. 23, 2018) – Sue Wooster claimed her second Senior Women’s North & South title on Wednesday, but her first since 2014. Wooster had a 3-over 75 at Pinehurst No. 5 in the final round, and finished the 54-hole event two shots ahead of Judith Kyrinis.
Wooster took the second-round lead with a 1-over 73 at Pinehurst No. 2 and never relinquished it. First-round leader Judith Kyrinis, the reigning U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur champion, had a few more big numbers on her card in the second round and signed for a 3-over 75. It moved her to 3 over for the tournament, two shots behind Wooster.
Wooster, who won the 2017 Canadian Women’s Senior in a playoff, and Kyrinis each had 75 in the final round. Kyrinis won this event in 2015 and 2016.
Seven-time USGA champion Ellen Port could never really muster a charge at the title, even though she was near the top of the leaderboard the whole week. Port’s final-round 74 was her best of the week. With opening rounds of 75-78, she finished 54 holes at 11 over and in solo third. Lara Tennant and Susan West were another shot back at 12 over.
In the super senior division, Mimi Hoffman put together solid rounds of 77-77-76 to reach 14-over 230 for the week and win by two over Patty Moore.
