The 72-hole stroke play Championship teed off on Tuesday, July 11 with amateur golfers from 10 countries and 29 universities competing on the classic Donald Ross course.
Quihuis, a senior at the University of Arizona, finished the 72-hole Championship with a score of 70-70-68-73—281 to claim the tournament’s top honor, the George III Champion Trophy.
Burnham, a senior at Michigan State, finished with a score of 69-72-68-72—281 and was awarded the Iva May McDonald Champion Runner-Up Trophy.
Third place went to Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia), a junior at Pepperdine, who finished with a score of 76-76-71-68--291.
Medalist Awards were distributed on Wednesday following the first two rounds of the tournament.
- Quihuis was also awarded the Nancy Orr Tournament Medalist Trophy, presented to player having the lowest combined score for the first two days of the Championship. Meghan Stasi (Oakland Park, Fla.) was awarded the TRANS Mid Amateur Medalist Trophy, presented to a player 25 years of age and older with the lowest combined score for the first two days of the Championship.
- Nicole Adam (Pinehurst, N.C.) was awarded the Dorothy Pease Junior Medalist Trophy, presented to a junior player under the age of 18 with the lowest combined score for the first two days of the Championship.
- MK Zordani (Palm Desert, Calif.) was awarded the Grace Palmer Woodruff Senior Medalist Trophy, player over the age of 50 who has the lowest combined score for the first two days of the Championship.
- Michigan State University was awarded the TRANS Howell Team Trophy, awarded to the club or university/college whose two members have the lowest combined score for the first two days of the Championship. Spartan team members Burnham and Katie Sharp (Kendallville, Ind.) competed in the tournament.
