There are golf tournaments with larger purses, louder galleries and more famous trophies. Then there is the Whisper Rock Invitational: an event whose mystique comes from how little of it the outside world gets to see.

Officially known as The National at Whisper Rock, the two-man best-ball invitational brings elite mid-amateurs and seniors inside one of the most private clubs in American golf. There is no open qualifier. There is no public tee sheet. Even reaching the first tee requires clearing two gates: an invitation to the tournament and access to a club where membership itself is by sponsorship and invitation.
