After both players completed regulation at Boonsboro Country Club tied at 4-under extra holes were needed and it was there where Massie was able to win the title.
Massie, playing in his hometown, opened Friday with a disappointing 4-over 75 (he started the round with three straight birdies) before rebounding each of the next two days with rounds of 68-66. Over the final two days Massie played next to perfect golf bogeying only three-times (all of which were in the second round) while birdieing 11 times. In the final round Massie saved his best for last carding five circles while not recording a bogey.
“Pretty special. I guess it still hasn’t quite sunk in yet,” Massie told The News & Advance. “ … To win in a playoff is pretty cool.”
Young earned his way into the playoff thanks to rounds of 69-69-71. Young, even-par 71 on Sunday, did have a chance to win late following a birdie on No. 16 only to give the shot right back with a 17th hole bogey and then parred the 18th.
Defending champion Sam O'Dell and Jimmy Delp shared third at 1-under while with an even-par showing Scott Shingler and Steve Serrao shared fifth.
