LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 7, 2015) -- Tim Hogarth of Northridge was victorious at the 98th Annual LA City Championship, held at the 6,839-yard, par-71 Rancho Park Golf Course. This was Hogarth’s 8th victory in the LA City.
“Winning never gets old,” Hogarth told AmateurGolf.com. “It’s been a good run – wins in the Kelly Cup, Pasadena City and now LA City, as well as a loss in a playoff at the Simi City.” A good run, indeed.
Hogarth started the tournament blazing hot, firing a five-under 66 on Thursday. That provided a four shot lead over Jonathan Lai of San Jose, and another Northridge resident, Eric Kim. They both finished at one-under 70 after day one.
After Hogarth’s 1-under 70 on and Kim’s second straight 70, they remained in the top two spots after Friday’s round. Kim won the day on Saturday, besting Hogarth’s par-71 with a two-under 69, slicing the overall lead to one shot going into Sunday’s final round.
In a tight final round, the difference for Hogarth came down to two holes.
“The lead was down to one when I holed a bunker shot for par on 12,” Hogarth said. “Then on 13, I hit a punch shot from the trees within two feet and an easy birdie. Those 10 minutes were the difference between losing and winning.”
