But in Tennessee, where legends like defending champ Tim Jackson and Danny Green (the 2017 winner) are still competing at a very high level, it's tough not to.
But it was another Tim, named Dinwiddie, who walked away with the trophy today at the Tennessee Senior Amateur.
Out on the course in the final group, Dinwiddie needed to play steady coming in, especially after a double bogey on the 9th brought him back to the pack. With a birdie on No. 11, and pars the rest of the way through No. 16, Dinwiddie suffered another bogey on No. 17, but parred 18 to avoid needing to go extra holes.
September has been good to the Afton, Tenn. resident. Just over a month ago (Sept. 8, 2019) he recorded an ace at Graysburg Hills Country Club on the 159-yard 8th hole.
As for Jackson, his spot in the Tennessee sports hall of fame is secure, but he showed today that he has just as much drive to win as ever. The Germantown, Tenn. resident is one of five players to win multiple U.S. Mid-Amateur titles. He was a member of two USA Walker Cup Teams (1995 and 1999), was the stroke-play medalist in the 2001 U.S. Amateur. And on top of all that, Jackson is a three-time low amateur in the U.S. Senior Open.
