Tiger Woods enters amateur golf realm with creation of Nexus Cup

The event will debut in September as a team golf competition with high-end gifts, cuisine and social gatherings.

There is worth in amateur golf, and Tiger Woods is the latest to buy into that. Both Woods and his organization, TGR Live, announced Monday the creation of the Nexus Cup, dubbed “the most exclusive amateur golf event in the world.” The inaugural event will take place Sept. 24-25 at Liberty National Golf Club in New York.

In the announcement, the event was described this way: A premier amateur tournament combining two days of team golf competition with curated gifts, exquisite cuisine and unforgettable evenings at NEXUS Club New York.

Prizes listed in this first announcement included Rolex watches, exclusive experiences at events like Tiger Jam and the Hero World Challenge and even dinner with Tiger. Gary Woodland, Keegan Bradley and Henrik Stenson are listed for guest appearances.

Past the experience, details remain sparse surrounding who qualifies, whether the event is for males or females and how many players will be in the field. The announcement does make clear that the event will be filled by invitation. Information on securing invitation can be found here.
