The Curtis Cup belongs to the United States again. Team USA reclaimed the Cup at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, California, after entering Sunday singles with a two-point lead and delivering the closing points it needed.

GB&I entered the week as the defending champion after its dramatic 10.5-9.5 victory at Sunningdale Golf Club in 2024. That result snapped a three-match winning streak for the United States, but the Americans answered on home soil with a strong three-day performance at Bel-Air.

The Americans controlled the Match from Friday forward. They won both Friday sessions by 2-1 margins, split Saturday’s six matches, and then closed the door in singles to reclaim the Cup.

About the Curtis Cup

The Curtis Cup is a biennial match-play competition between the United States and Great Britain & Ireland. Each side features eight female amateur players and a captain, with the Match alternating between the United States and Great Britain or Ireland.

The Cup was first played in 1932 and has long served as a proving ground for future stars. Past Curtis Cup players include major champions, Solheim Cup players and some of the most accomplished amateurs in the history of the women’s game.

While the United States owns a commanding lead in the overall series, GB&I arrived at Bel-Air with momentum after winning the 2024 Match at Sunningdale. The Americans answered by reclaiming the Cup on home soil in 2026.

The venue: Bel-Air Country Club

Bel-Air Country Club played to 6,284 yards and a par of 70, with a 36-34 split across the two nines. The exact yardage changed by session depending on course setup and conditions.

Designed by George C. Thomas with assistance from William P. Bell, Bel-Air opened in 1927. The course has changed over the years, with work from Dick Wilson, Robert Trent Jones and Tom Fazio, before Tom Doak and Renaissance Golf Design restored it closer to Thomas’ original design in 2017.

This was the fourth USGA championship held at Bel-Air. The club previously hosted the 1976 U.S. Amateur, the 2004 U.S. Senior Amateur and the 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur, where Megan Schofill defeated Latanna Stone in the championship match.

California Curtis Cup note: This was just the second Curtis Cup Match played in California. The first came in 1974 at San Francisco Golf Club, where the United States defeated GB&I, 13-5.

Format and scoring

The first two days featured team sessions, with three four-ball matches in the morning and three foursomes matches in the afternoon. Sunday brought eight singles matches, where the United States secured the Cup.

Four-ball means each player plays her own ball and the better score from each side counts. Foursomes is alternate shot, with two players on each side playing one ball. Each match is worth one point, and matches tied after 18 holes are worth a half point to each team.

The captains

Meghan Stasi captained the United States to victory after the narrow 2024 loss at Sunningdale. Stasi is a four-time U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion and was part of the victorious 2008 U.S. Curtis Cup team at the Old Course at St. Andrews.

Catriona Matthew captained GB&I after guiding her side to the 2024 victory. Matthew won the 2009 Women’s British Open, played in three Curtis Cups as an amateur and later captained Europe to Solheim Cup wins in 2019 and 2021.

Team USA roster

Team USA brought a deep roster with elite WAGR strength, college success and major amateur experience. The group included three top-10 amateurs and several players who have already competed on some of the biggest stages in women’s golf.

What decided the Match

1. Team USA never gave up the lead

The United States took a 4-2 lead on Friday and carried a 7-5 edge into Sunday. That cushion proved important once GB&I won the opening two singles matches.

2. The middle of the singles lineup delivered

Jasmine Koo, Kiara Romero, Asterisk Talley and Farah O’Keefe flipped momentum back toward Team USA, and Anna Davis added another emphatic singles point.

3. Sunday singles closed the story

GB&I needed five singles points to retain the Cup, but the United States reached the 10.5-point mark first and officially reclaimed the Curtis Cup.

Recent Curtis Cup history

The United States dominated much of the recent stretch, winning in 2018, 2021 and 2022, including a commanding 15.5-4.5 victory at Merion in 2022. GB&I answered in 2024, producing four of the six available points on Saturday and then holding off the Americans in Sunday singles to win by one.

That narrow margin added to the intrigue at Bel-Air. Team USA had the ranking advantage and the home crowd, while GB&I had the Cup and a proven captain. In the end, the Americans did enough across all three days to take the Cup back.

The bottom line

The United States has won the 2026 Curtis Cup at Bel-Air. Team USA entered Sunday singles with a 7-5 lead and reached the winning threshold before the final match was complete, reclaiming the Cup from Great Britain & Ireland on home soil.
