Stewart Hagestad’s Modern Amateur Golf Legacy: From Pine Valley to Augusta, the Walker Cup and Beyond

Stewart Hagestad has spent much of the last decade proving that there is still another path in elite golf.

At a time when most of the game’s best amateurs move quickly from college golf into professional careers, Hagestad has stayed. He has built a body of work around USGA championships, Walker Cups and some of the most prestigious amateur events in the world, while continuing to compete against players who are often more than a decade younger. At 35, he is no longer simply an accomplished mid-amateur or a veteran presence in elite amateur golf. He has become one of the defining American amateurs of the modern era.
