Steve Maxwell defends Sand Hollow Senior Amateur title by three shots

Maxwell repeats at +3; Gardiner wins Super Senior, Hacker takes Legends.

Steve Maxwell successfully defended his Sand Hollow Resort Senior Amateur title with a composed two-round performance, finishing at three-over 147 to top the Senior Division leaderboard.

Maxwell opened with an even-par 72 before adding a 75 in the final round, doing enough to stay in front as the chasing pack failed to mount a decisive late charge.

The win came with little margin for error. Five players finished tied for second at six-over 150, including Brigham Gibbs, Brett Hess, Jon Wright and Shane Flowers, as the Senior Division produced a tightly bunched leaderboard behind the champion.

The 2025 runner-up Shane McMillan was unable to replicate last year’s run, ending the week tied 12th at 14-over 158.

In the Super Senior Division, Mark Gardiner delivered the standout scoring of the tournament. After an opening 76, he surged with a closing 65 to finish at three-under 141 and claim the gross title. Rick Lloyd placed second at one-under 143.

The Legends Flight required extra holes. Michael Hacker, the 2017 Utah State Senior Amateur Champion, won in a first-hole playoff after finishing tied at two-over 146 with Steven Smith.

Maxwell’s repeat victory capped another strong edition of the Sand Hollow Senior Amateur, with competitive finishes across all divisions and tight margins at the top of each leaderboard.
