South Carolina SEC Women's Golf Championship Top-Seed

BIRMINGHAM, AL (April 20, 2018) - After three rounds of stroke-play South Carolina has earned the top-seed at the SEC Women's Championship. The Gamecocks, looking for their first conference title since 2002 capped the seeding portion of play with a 3-under final round to finish 3-over and five shots in front of two-seed Alabama (+8).

In all the top eight seeds advanced to match play at Greystone Country Club. The quarterfinal matches will feature:

No. 1 South Carolina vs. No. 8 Missouri
No. 4 Georgia vs. No. 5 Auburn
No. 3 Arkansas vs. No. 6 Florida
No. 2 Alabama vs. No. 7 Vanderbilt

South Carolina was led to the top-seed by medalist winner Ainhoa Olarra. A senior, Olarra becomes the second consecutive Gamecock to earn SEC Individual honors after Katelyn Dambaugh won the title last year.

Trailing by a stroke heading to the final hole Olarra got up-and-down for birdie from the bunker to finish 7-under and tie with Fassi who also birdied the last. After both players parred the first playoff hole Olarra stuck her approach shot on the second extra hole to three feet setting up the title winning out. For Olarra it was her second win of the spring.

Olarra combined rounds of 70-69-70 while for Fassi, a five-time winner this season, it was cards of 70-70-69.

Both players were able to create some separation from the rest of the field with the next closet competitor five shots back as Kristen Gillman of Alabama was third at 2-under. The top-five was rounded out by four others sharing fourth at even-par.
