Sean O’Donnell (Pinehurst, N.C.) picked the perfect time to make his move.
In his first start on the Carolinas Golf Association calendar, O’Donnell fired a final round 4-under 67 to surge past the field and claim the Carolinas Mid Amateur title at Broomsedge Golf Club in Rembert, S.C. His three-round total of 8-under 205 (70-68-67) was good for a one-shot victory.
O’Donnell began the day tied for fourth at 4-under 138, two shots behind 36-hole leader Patrick Stephenson (Columbia, S.C.). But as the final round unfolded, O’Donnell steadily climbed the leaderboard while Stephenson slipped back with a closing 72, finishing T-4 at 5 under 208 (68-68-72).
Behind the winner, Jon Weiss Sr. (Florence, S.C.) made a strong push with a final round 67 of his own to finish runner-up at 7 under 206 (70 69 67), just one shot short.
Sam Jackson (2023 champion) added another solid performance, finishing third at 6 under 207 (69 68 70).
The win continues O’Donnell’s upward trajectory. Just over a year ago, he captured the 2025 AGA Championship, his first major title, before relocating from Arizona to North Carolina. This week marked his CGA debut, and he wasted no time making an impact.
Defending champion Brett McLamb finished T-7 at 4-under 209 (67-70-72).
A new state, a new association, and now a new title for O’Donnell.
