Scott Vincent rallies to win The Players Amateur

BLUFFTON, S.C. (July 13, 2014) -- When overnight leader Garrett Rank struggled early in the final round, the door was slightly opening for someone to take advantage. That someone was Scott Vincent, who shot a final-round 4-under 68 to come from behind and win The Players Amateur at Berkeley Hall Club. Vincent, who plays at Virginia Tech, entered the final round six shots behind Rank, who led in large part to his second-round 62, which set the competitive course record. He took advantage of Rank's early struggles, which included a bogey five on No. 2 and an eight at the par-4 7th. Vincent, in return, was flawless. He recorded birdies on Nos. 6 and 7 and had two more coming in that gave him a one-shot victory over Rank and 2013 champion Hunter Stewart. Stewart, a rising Vanderbilt star who recently competed in the U.S. Open, shot rounds of 69-69-71-69. Oklahoma State's Zach Olsen, who'll next defend his Southern Amateur title against another loaded field, took fourth place, shooting rounds of 73-70-66-70 while North Florida's Jack Maguire was fifth after rounds of 74-71-64-71. The prestigious event was created by Duke Delcher and Tom McKnight and event spares no expense to attract a high quality field. The winner gets an exemption into the PGA Tour RBC Heritage Classic on Hilton Head, as well as the Master of the Amateurs tournament in Melbourne, Australia.
