Sam Till, Jr. wins Gateway Senior in playoff

It seems one adjective has been used to describe senior golfer Bob Kearney over the past year and a half, and it's "hot." As in smokin' hot, as he has seemed to win about every tournament in which he plays. But that came to an end when Sam Till, Jr. won the 2016 Gateway Senior Invitational. Till put together rounds of 71-73 for a 144 finish, while Kearney posted rounds of back-to-back 72s, tying Till on the final day and sending the both players to the 10th hole for the playoff. Till managed a birdie while Kearney sunk another par. The 54-hole tournament was cut short after two-and-a-half inches of rain soaked the course, making it unplayable after 36 holes. Sunday's final round had started and a few players were out on the course when play was finally halted for good, so tournament officials decided to take the 36-hole scores, which left Till and Kearney in a tie. The only hole that was playable, No. 10, is where the playoff began and finished with Till's birdie. SUPER SENIOR Rick Bauch didn't require a playoff to win the flight for players aged 65-and over, since he ended 36-holes a shot clear of runner-up Frank Polizzi after rounds of 73-71, and was declared the winner when the final round was rained out.
