SACRAMENTO, Calif. — After blowing the field away winning by 10 strokes last year with a tournament record 20-under par, Ryan Sloane successfully defended his title this time in a nail biter. The San Jose native show the low round of the final day with a 4-under 68, good enough for a one-shot victory over Chris Johnson of Rancho Cordova and Jay Weiss of San Jose.
Johnson led after day one at Bing Maloney Golf Course with four-under 68, but fell back into a tie atop the leaderboard after posting 75 on Sunday. Sloane shot 71 to join Johnson at the top at 1-under 143. Then the pair dueled all Monday afternoon, with Sloane's 68 just edging a 69 from Johnson.
Weiss posted 70 on Monday to tie for the runner-up position with Johnson, while Jeff Hoffman of Folsom and Jeff Weiss of San Jose tied for fourth at 2-under 214.
