GREEN LAKE, Wisc. — Storied Wisconsin champion Robert Gregorski added another state title to his resume with a comeback win at the Wisconsin Mid-Amateur Championship.
Gregorski, who has played in more than 10 USGA championships and won many Wisconsin State Golf Association titles, trailed first-round leaders Paul Zarek and Jason Pendleton by three strokes, but fired 3-under par 69 on Tuesday to surge ahead for a two-stroke victory.
Joe Weber led by a stroke going into the 17th hole, but made double on the par-4 17th while Gregorski made timely birdies on the final two holes. Pendleton had a chance to win, but a 4-over 40 on the back nine took him out of contention and into a tie for third place with Zarek, who had a disappointing back nine, as well.
Gregorski, who was elected to the WSGA Hall-of-Fame in 2004, made state history in 1998 when he captured the Wisconsin State Amateur, State Mid-Amateur, State Match Play, and Public Links titles all in the same year.
