Pros Finally top the Ams at the Hanna-Wehrman Cup Matches

The NCPGA ends an 11-year drought, beating the amateurs by a single point at Contra Costa Country Club

PLEASANT HILL, CA (October 24, 2017) - The professional team of the Northern California PGA (NCPGA) ended an 11-year drought in the Hanna-Wehrman Cup Matches, taking a narrow 10.5-9.5 win over the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) amateur team at Contra Costa Country Club. “I can retire now,” said NCPGA captain Paul Wilcox. The two teams were tied 2.5-2.5 after the Monday morning Chapman session, but in the afternoon Four-Ball session the amateurs took control, winning 3.5 out of 5 points and taking a two point lead into the Tuesday Singles. But the NCPGA rose to the occasion this time, winning the Singles session 6.5-3.5 and taking the Cup for the first time since 2005. Matt Cohn, Garett Wagner and Domingo Jojola each won singles matches for the NCGA. Bobby Bucey was the overall leading point earner for the ams, earning 2.5 points for the three matches. Wagner, Jojola, and Brett Viboch each had 2 points. “It was a tough match. They pulled it out at the end,” said NCGA captain Tom Bone. After the loss, the NCGA leads the all-time Hanna-Wehrman Cup series, 24-19-9.
