PNGA Mid-Amateur: Phillip Bagdade completes comeback victory

Bagdade used a strong final round to make up for an average opening round to win the championship.

Phillip Bagdade of Portland, Ore., shot rounds of 74-69-67 to win the 38th Pacific Northwest Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship.

Bagdade opened with a 2-over 74 in the first round of the championship and found himself six shots back and T15 after round one. In the second and third rounds, he completely turned the tables and shot a combined 8-under over the final two rounds. This included a bogey-free 67 in today’s final round, which marked the lowest score of the championship.

Bagdade finished at 6-under par, securing the championship by a single shot over Jacob Rohde of Everett, Wash. Finishing in third place was Adam Harrington of Portland, Ore., who finished at 4-under par.

This is the first PNGA title for Bagdade, who played collegiately for four years on the University of Arizona men’s golf team (2008-12). He won the 2016 Oregon Men’s Mid-Amateur, and in 2019 he qualified for and played in the U.S. Mid-Amateur.
