Northwestern escaped the frigid temperatures of the Midwest just long enough to warm up with a three-day heater at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix where the Wildcats came away with a resounding victory at the PING/ASU Intercollegiate on Sunday.
The Wildcats opened an eight-stroke after the first round and never looked back in blitzing a field that featured seven of the top-15 teams in the nation. Behind co-medalist Kelly Sim, the Wildcats finished the 54-hole event at 18-under par, 14 strokes ahead of host Arizona State (-4). No. 12 Baylor (+3), No. 7 Mississippi State (+4) and No. 8 Texas (+6) rounded out the top-five.
Sim birdied her final hole to finish off a bogey-free round of 3-under 69 to finish at 10-under for the tournament to share medalist honors with Baylor's Sera Hasegawa. Sim loves Papago, as she is 20-under par for her last nine rounds there dating back to 2021.
