BIRMINGHAM, AL (June 25, 2016) -- Michael Perras of Pasadena, Texas overcame a 3-shot deficit heading into the final round at Greystone Country Club to win the Greystone Invitational.
On Saturday, the University of Houston golfer parred the first five holes, then birdied Nos. 6 and 8 to get to 2-under on the day and 7-under on the tournament. Playing alongside him, 54-hole leader Peyton Dix was struggling to find a rhythm, recording four bogeys against a single birdie on the front nine to give away his lead.
Although he settled down on the back nine --- getting a stroke back from par -- it wasn't enough to catch Perras, whose final hole birdie gave him a 2-under back nine and final round of 69.
The experience of giving up a 54-hole lead will no doubt help Dix (a future University of Memphis golfer) when he finds himself in a similar position coming down the stretch. And what he accomplished over the first 54-holes certainly portends future success: In the middle two rounds Dix carded just one bogey, which came on the 8th hole of Thursday's second round.
Braden Bailey had the lowest Saturday score, posting 67 to finish in a tie for third with Garrett May of Arkansas. His magical round included four birdies over his final ten holes.
