OJAI, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2018) – Howie Knodt’s opening 68 at the SCGA Super Senior Championship made it so that no other player could touch him in the final round of the event at Ojai Valley Inn and Spa. Knodt cruised to a three-shot victory Wednesday over runner-up Frank Pieper.
Knodt, of Pauma Valley, Calif., had four bogeys and two birdies in a 2-over 70 for the final round. He was at even par for 36 holes. Knodt’s opening 2-under 68 was the only under-par round from any competitor over the two days of competition.
Most impressively, Knodt managed to hold off Kemp Richardson as he played for a three-peat in this event. Richardson started the day four off the pace and he remained there. Back-to-back rounds of 2-over 72 left him tied with Rick Doebler for third.
Four players tied for fifth at 6 over including Dave Sheff, Jim Knoll, Rich Tolly and Steven Hakes.
