Weather caused some issues in the Kansas Mid-Amateur and Senior Team Championship, but champions were still crowned Tuesday in the Kansas Golf Association’s season-opener. The full field completed two rounds of play on Monday at Crestview Country Club in Wichia, but Tuesday's third-round Four-Ball format was washed out after heavy rain and severe weather created unplayable course conditions.
In the Mid-Am Team Championship, Wichita residents Corey Novascone and Tyler Chapman were victorious after surviving a three-team playoff against the teams of William Gantz and Kit Grove and Jeff Bell and Elliot Soyez. All three teams were tied at 1-under 143 after the first two rounds of play on Monday, which included a morning shamble and afternoon foursomes format.
In the Senior Team Championship, Brad Ansley and Keith King collected their first KGA title after besting the field of teams. Ansley and King finished the two completed rounds of play with a 6-under 138 total that included an impressive 2-under 70 in the difficult afternoon foursomes format in the second round. Scott Whittaker and Bob Hannekan finished in second, three shots back.
In the Super Senior Team, KGA veterans John Bailey and Peter Robbins lapped the field on their way to a four-shot victory. Bailey and Robbins finished at 1-over 145 for the two rounds of completed play. Lynn Dickey and Randy Nay finished in the runner-up position at 5-over 149.
