Jessy Huebner claims Wyndham Invitational title by one shot

Jessy Huebner closed with a 2-under 68 to finish at 12-under 198, earning a one-shot victory at the Wyndham Invitational

Jessy Huebner of Port St. Lucie, Fla., captured the Wyndham Invitational title at Sedgefield Country Club's Donald Ross Course, posting rounds of 65-65-68 to finish at 12-under 198.

The victory came by a single stroke over Jackson Ormond of Webster, N.Y., and Mingbo Jiang of China, who now resides in Orlando, Fla. Both players finished at 11-under 199.

Ormond, an incoming Florida freshman and one of 19 amateurs in the upcoming U.S. Open, carded rounds of 64-72-63, including a tournament-low 63 in the final round. Jiang, an incoming Virginia freshman, posted rounds of 70-63-66 to share runner-up honors.

Huebner entered the final round with a two-shot lead at 10-under 130 after consecutive 65s and closed with a 2-under 68 to hold off the late charges from Ormond and Jiang.

The title was a measure of redemption for Huebner, who finished runner-up in last year's Wyndham Invitational, one shot behind champion Willie Gordon of Hot Springs, Ark.

Ranked No. 5 in the AJGA Rankings, Huebner recorded 16 birdies during the championship and made just three bogeys over 54 holes. The win was his first Invitational title and third AJGA victory.
