BARTLETT, Tenn. (July 26, 2018) – Spencer Jenkins’ back-nine was not particularly exciting as he played his way to the Bubba Conlee title, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing when you’re trying to win a prestigious junior event. Jenkins, of Eads, Tenn., strung together nine consecutive pars on his way to a 2-under 68 at Quail Ridge Golf Course. It gave him a two-shot victory over Austin Coggin of Vestavia Hills, Ala.
Jenkins and Coggin began the day tied for the lead at 5 under, but Jenkins’ final-round 68 made the difference. Coggin was 3 under on his front nine but 3 over on the back. An even-par 70 left him 5 under for the event while Jenkins was 7 under.
In the girls division, Therese Warner of Kennewick, Wash., earned a slim victory over Joyce Jin of Encinitas, Calif., and Megan Propeck of Leawood, Kan.
Warner opened with rounds of 69-67 but slipped to 2-over 74 on Thursday (the girls played to a par 72). She still managed to finish at 6 under. Her pursuers finished 54 holes at 5 under.
