Guan Tianlang makes cut at Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship

Shooting 70-69 in the first two rounds, 16-year-old amateur Guan Tianlang of China made the cut at the European Tour event

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emrites (Jan. 17, 2015) — Two amateur players were slated to participate as the European Tour kicked off its "Desert Swing" with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Sixteen-year old Guan Tianlang of China carded a two-under par round of 70 in round one, followed by a three-under 69 on Friday to not only make the cut, but be in a tie for 16th place. Tianlang made headlines back in 2013 when he played in the 2013 Masters at age 14 by virtue of winning the 2012 Asia-Pacific Amateur. In the third round, however, Tianlang struggled to a six-over 78, dropping him to near the bottom of the leaderboard. He then carded a 72 in Sunday's final round, finishing in a tie for 70th place. Georgia Tech superstar Ollie Schniederjans was also in the field, but missed the cut with a 36-hole total of 151, finishing near the bottom of the leaderboard. Full results from the event can be found here.
