The Georgia Cup annually pits the reigning U.S. Amateur and British Amateur champions in an 18-hole match as a prelude to the Masters, where both traditionally receive invitations to compete.

The match is also a charitable event, with proceeds benefiting the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Redman came into the match playing well, having made the cut in the PGA Tour Arnold Palmer Invitational. But on an overcast day with temperatures in the 40s, Ellis took control of the match early and never looked back.
Ellis took the early advantage when Redman bogeyed the 2nd hole. The advantage was two holes after Ellis drained a 12-footer on the 5th hole for the win.
On the 8th hole, Ellis hit a wedge shot from 63 yards to a foot, and when Redman missed his 25-footer for birdie, Ellis was three up. Another birdie at the 9th pushed the margin to four holes at the turn.
With Ellis' win, the British Amateur champion has won five of the last six Georgia Cup matches, pushing their lead in the matches to 12-9 overall.
Ellis and Redman will now move on to play in the Masters Tournament, April 5-8.
