Fryatt uses back-to-back 67s for solo Crane Cup lead

Las Vegas players Edward Fryatt and Brady Exber lead both divisions of the Crane Cup entering the final round.

PALM CITY, Fla. (Nov. 10, 2018) – At the Floridian, 67 seems to be Edward Fryatt’s number. The 47-year-old has had a pair of them so far at the Crane Cup, and it gave him a slim solo lead.

Fryatt is a reinstated amateur from Las Vegas who contended last month in his hometown city championship after an opening 9-under 63. He’s a veteran of more than 10 USGA Championships, including three U.S. Opens. He was T-24 at the 1997 U.S. Open at Congressional. Fryatt returned to the amateur game in 2013.

As for Fryatt’s closest pursuer, Justin Tereshko, a second-round 68 left him one shot off the lead entering the final round. Tereshko spent the past four years as the head men’s golf coach at Guilford College but is in his first season as the assistant men’s golf coach at Louisville. Despite coaching responsibilities, Tereshko still competes regularly. He won the 2017 North Carolina Amateur after finishing runner-up in the previous two years.

Defending champion Derek Busby is third after a second-round 67 left him at 5-under 137, three off the lead. Skip Berkmeyer, a mid-amateur who made match play at this year’s U.S. Amateur, is three shots back in fourth.

After rounds of 71-70, 2017 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Matt Parziale worked his way into a tie for fifth at 1-under 141.

Another Las Vegas player moved into the lead in the senior division. Brady Exber, who won the Canadian Senior Amateur earlier this year, had a 3-under 68 to reach 3 under for the tournament and take a two-shot lead on Mike McCoy and Chip Lutz.

Exber won the Crane Cup in 2015. He is a seven-time Southern Nevada Golf Association Player of the Year.
