A wedge face showing groove wear in the impact zone.
In Part 1 of our wedge fitting series we worked on gapping: which lofts belong at the bottom of the bag. But there's a question that sits underneath every wedge fitting, and it's one most amateurs avoid because the answer might cost them money. How long do those wedges actually stay good?
Walk down any range and you'll see two extremes. Tour players swap wedges like they're changing gloves. Club golfers carry sand wedges old enough to vote. Somebody is wrong, or at least somebody is paying for performance they don't need. So we went to the source, Titleist's Vokey wedge team, and then checked their claims against independent testing and the forum arguments to find out where the line really is.
