JAMESTOWN, ND (July 31, 2016) -- For most of the North Dakota Match Play championship tilt, Bill Carlson was trailing Connor Holland. But on Sunday Carlson proved why you keep playing all 18 holes.
So 1 down with five holes left at Jamestown Country Club, Carlson dug deep and won back-to-back holes to take a 1 up lead with three remaining. Now in the lead, Carlson kept the peddle to the mettle and finished off the match a short time later with a 2&1 victory. The win on Sunday was the second North Dakota Match Play title, in the last three years for the former North Dakota State Bison.
Carlson, the four-seed, won three matches to reach the finals including a 1 up win against No. 9 Pat Traynor in the semifinals.
Three-seed Connor Holland, made his way to the title match thanks to a 2 up victory over Mitch Fifer in the semis.
