Day 2: Sun-Drenched South Course Challenges the Field

If Day 1 was a dystopian battle against the fog, Day 2 at Torrey Pines was a masterclass in coastal beauty and championship difficulty. Moving from the North to the legendary South Course, players were greeted by bright San Diego sunshine from the first tee to the final putt.

The change in atmosphere was total, but the challenge remained immense. While the visibility issues of the previous morning vanished, they were replaced by the South Course’s sheer length and its signature poa annua greens. With the Farmers Insurance Open less than a month away, the course is in peak condition, punishing any shot that finds the thick, "tour-ready" rough.

Father-Son Division: Miller Duo Surges Ahead

In a major shift at the top, Donald Miller and Zachary Miller moved into the lead, following up their solid opening round with a 72 to sit at 2-under par for the tournament. Day 1 leaders Aiden and Darren Canada remain well within striking distance at 1-under.

  • Donald Miller + Zachary Miller 142 (-2)
  • Aiden Canada + Darren Canada 143 (-1)
  • Jeremy Smith + Michael Smith 147 (+3)

Two Man Links (Open) Division: Syta & Ramos Holding Strong

Dale Syta and Mark Ramos maintained their lead in the Open Division, grinding out a 77 on the difficult South Course to stay three shots clear of the field.

  • Dale Syta + Mark Ramos 150 (+6)
  • Jeff Lane + Robert Stone 153 (+9)
  • Barry Castle + Russell Johnson 156 (+12)

Tomorrow, the tournament moves away from the cliffs of Torrey Pines to the historic Coronado Golf Course for the final round. Known for its spectacular views of the San Diego Bay and Coronado Bridge, it will provide a strategic and scenic conclusion to a memorable week of competition.

Day 1: A Dystopian Morning in the Mist

The opening round of the AmateurGolf.com Two Man Links & Father-Son Championship was unlike any other in the event's history. A heavy coastal marine layer settled over Torrey Pines North, reducing visibility to less than 30 yards for the first hour of play.

Range finders were useless, and targets were obscured by a white wall of fog. Players were forced to rely on feel and yardage books, yet remarkably, the field battled through the "blind" start to post solid scores in preparation for tomorrow's shift to the South Course.

Tour-Level Conditions

Beyond the fog, the primary story was the course setup. Playing just weeks before the PGA Tour arrives, the rough is arguably as dense as these amateurs will see all year. Navigating the fairways was a necessity, as the "buttoned up" tournament setup made reaching greens from the rough nearly impossible.
