SPRINGFIELD, N.J. — There is no qualifying for the Carter Cup. You cannot sign up, and you cannot buy your way in. An invitation to the Metropolitan Golf Association's Junior Stroke Play Championship is earned the hard way — with results, all summer long, against the best competition the Met Area can offer. That is a large part of why, in little more than two decades, the one-day, 36-hole examination at Baltusrol Golf Club has become one of the most coveted titles in junior golf.
The 24th playing takes place Tuesday, August 4, with the juniors returning to the event's traditional routing: the Upper Course in the morning, with the champions decided on the Lower in the afternoon. For the second straight year, two trophies are at stake — the MGA added a girls' division in 2025, and both divisions are guaranteed new winners this year.
